Wealthsimple RESPs now eligible for the Québec Education Savings Incentive (QESI)
Québec families can now access up to $3,600 per child in provincial education grants — on top of federal grants — directly through Wealthsimple
April 22, 2026

Montréal, QC (April 22, 2026) — Wealthsimple, an online financial services platform, today announced that families can now apply for the Québec Education Savings Incentive (QESI) through its RESP accounts. Québec families saving for their children's post-secondary education can apply directly through the Wealthsimple app or on the web, unlocking up to $3,600 per child in provincial grants on top of the federal Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG). The QESI has been one of the most requested features from Wealthsimple's Québec clients.
"We know Québec families have been waiting for QESI support on Wealthsimple, and we heard them," said Shane Murphy, Senior Advisor and Associate Portfolio Manager at Wealthsimple, based in Montréal. "The QESI can make a real difference for families saving for their kids' futures. Stacking it with federal grants means parents can now get up to 30% in government matching on their RESP contributions through Wealthsimple — that's money that grows over time. With our lower account fees, that makes a real difference when it comes to paying for everything that comes with post-secondary education.”
How the QESI works on Wealthsimple
The QESI is a refundable tax credit paid directly into an RESP from Revenu Québec that matches 10% of annual RESP contributions, up to $250 per child per year, with a lifetime maximum of $3,600. Lower-income families may qualify for an additional 5% to 10% on the first $500 contributed each year. Combined with the federal CESG — which matches 20% of contributions up to $500 per child per year — Québec families using Wealthsimple can now receive up to 30% in combined government grant matching on eligible RESP contributions, for a maximum of $750 per child per year in total grants.
Applying takes just minutes:
- Already have a Wealthsimple RESP? Open the app or log in on the web, navigate to your RESP, select "Apply for QESI," and follow the prompts. Joint account holders will each need to complete the application.
- New to Wealthsimple? Open or transfer an RESP and select "Apply for QESI" during setup. Transfers take less than five minutes to initiate, and Wealthsimple will reimburse transfer fees charged by other institutions for transfers of $25,000 or more.
Contributions made in 2023 or later to an RESP with an eligible beneficiary count toward QESI grants — even if those contributions were made before the client applied. QESI grants are calculated based on the previous year's contributions and are typically deposited into the RESP in May. To be eligible, the child must reside in Québec, be under 18 on December 31 of the contribution year, and have a valid Social Insurance Number. The QESI is available for both self-directed and managed RESP portfolios.
